Will Not Accept my Motorola Edge 2022 for trade-in

Phobio - Will Not Accept my Motorola Edge 2022 for trade-in
Original review Nov 17, 2023
I went to Motorola.com and ordered a new Motorola Edge 2023 in October, and they had on their site an offer to turn in my old phone if it was free of damage. I went to their pull down menus and selected my Motorola Edge 2022 and the site said that I would receive a 150 credit for it. Phobios sent me the return package, I packed my old phone and sent it in and on their dashboard it says "Revised Offer Details Ineligible The device received is not currently eligible for trade-in."...there were no cracks, no screen damage and it passed all of their tests...wtf?

Resolved: Disreputable practices

Updated by user Feb 10, 2022

Company fixed the issue and I have been provided with full refund. 3+ months, over 40 emails, and countless hours documenting the debacle finally got me a resolution..

Updated by user Feb 10, 2022

One Plus has now paid me the trade-in $ for my old phone. The old phone was sent back to a different Phobio center (in TX not GA) where an actual person I could communicate with took ownership of the issue and authorized the refund.

Original review Dec 29, 2021
Phobio manages the OnePlus phone trade-in program. They initially valued my 6t phone at $70. I sent the phone to Phobio that valued it at $20. In addition, there was a $100 "bonus" if phone sent in within a certain time frame. Phobio said I needed to reply to an email to get the $20, I replied within 30 minutes, and even with a follow-up email 2 days later, they said I didn't reply! To add insult to injury FedEx was late delivering the phone to Phobio so now they are using that as an excuse to not pay the $100. Phobio is a disreputable and dishonest company, I have an email trail of them outright lying to me.

Received an email about a trade in phone. They had the model completely wrong and stated damage. When I stated that was not the phone sent they did then confirm I sent a 6S, not a 5S. They said there was still damage. I stated that are they sure they did not load the wrong phone because I sent a phone in excellent condition. They said there was nothing they would do. Only after did I see the horrible reviews. This company has no integrity. I am surprised Apple does business with them. Hopefully you're reading this prior to sending your product.

Disappointed in Apple's choice

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
A total disappointment! They updated my quote from $210 to $80 after I sent in my device and claimed that "After inspection we have found minor cosmetic wear and tear to your device that is associated with normal daily usage" Well, it is a device from 5 years ago, what do you expect ? If there is no normal daily usage associated but BRAND NEW, why would I trade in with you instead of returning it to Apple? Didnt you base your quote on the year of use already? If it is normal use, why I got discount on my quote after I sent in? If a quote to a fully functioning Mac doesnt even cover a new mouse I was planning to buy, I would rather give it to a homeless person who might find a new job and change his life with it. Just a waste of time. And now I just hope they can send me the original device without changing any more or the whole thing. Enough with their tricks Apple shouldnt use this kind of company to exhaust customer's faith in her- Just messed up.

Misleading trade-in quote, devalued twice after they had my item

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I recently obtained a quote for trading in a mac mini (intel) I purchased new at $999.00 Canadian funds before the M1 series came out. I went to the apple menu, copied and pasted the model info on the trade in form, and submitted a quotation request. Phobio then emailed me a quote for $910.00, and I said yes to that. When I received the box to ship it to them it was 1/3 larger than a MacBook 16". I queried this, and they replied 4 days later that "yes, this is the correct box" I emailed them back, with concerns about damage from the much smaller mini rattling around in this huge box. They did not answer. So, 3 days later, I sent it, with extra internal packing to be safe. Once they received the mac, they downgraded the $910.00 quote by $220.00 because i was "past the 21 day time window" But, it gets even better. They are now saying it is a different unit than the one quoted on. It is now worth only $500.00 This is despite the fact that all the technical info supplied in the original quote came directly from the "about this mac" menu on said computer.

Sent in my iPad which always had a screen protector along with the iPad cover AND a back sleeve. Phobio sent me a picture of what looked like an alright screen saying it was damaged (again, it wasnt when I sent it in) and reduced their offer by $130. This company is a sham and Apple should be embarrassed to be in bed with them. Do NOT do business with them. Sell your device on eBay/Craigslist.

Offered $75 on the apple site in regard to the value of my iPhone trade-in - was offered $10 after inspection... this is a clear bait and switch and rip-off. Do not use this service - better off selling privately or simply tossing the device in the garbage - better than supporting this horrible company Phobio - with their BS tactics to steal your devices...

Phobio - Horrible Apple Trade-in experience
Updated by user Oct 02, 2020

I was finally able to get through to them and actually ended up with an awesome customer service rep. So far at this point.

She escalated the concern to her supervision and he already approved them to send a new power supply.

Won’t do anything like resolve this until I get it, but based on what I read with regards to customer service I wasn’t expecting much, so I was plenty surprised. I hope this continues to be positive for this situation anyway.

Original review Oct 02, 2020
Sent a Macbook Air in for trade in with a small dent on the lower corner of the display, (no screen damage at all) small cosmetic only damage. Was docked $190.00 so the value dropped from $310 to $120. We rejected the offer and had them return it to us. They put it in a box that was not designed to protect the laptop at all and provided us with the crappiest looking power supply adapter ever. It has been chewed up and is burned on the MagSafe connection end of the adapter. They kept a 2 year old pristine charging brick and cable and sent the worst looking one ever. Then when you try to call and speak with them, after 10 minutes of being on hold, they hang up on you and never respond to emails or call back requests. Apple, please re-consider who you use for a third party. You guys are much better than this offering of a pitiful company.

Horrible service - bait and switch!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
In November, I did a trade-in with Apple online. I traded a 21 iMac for a new 27. In the process, they ask for the serial number, which gives them all the specs of that particular unit. I had upgraded the RAM and had a privacy screen on the display. The Apple trade-in quote was $700. I packaged it up and set it off. No where did Apple tell me that a company named Phobio was the trade-in partner handling the transaction. Phobio got the computer, and a few days later reduced the trade amount to $400 stating it was not the model number I indicated. I never gave a model number - a serial number is the only thing asked for. I tried working with Apple on the problem and got tired of being passed around from rep to rep. I rejected the trade value. When the iMac was returned to me the privacy screen was gone and it had scratches. The iMac I sent them was flawless. I always take photos before trading anything in. I have had multiple calls with Apple &;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; Phobio. I sent Phobio before and after photos when they requested them. I keep getting promises of call backs and never get them. The last call, Apple talked to Phobio instead of making me do that yet again. Now they say theyll give me $700 for it. Well its almost 2 months later and Ive had to sell it to someone else. The call dropped and no one bothered to call me back. So I am still missing an expensive privacy screen and was returned a damaged Mac.

Described my 2019 MacBook Pro and received an offer of $750. Sent 9-month-old MacBook Pro. After not hearing from Phobia contact them there offer to which stated device was as described. And apple digital card would be sent. The value was $630, not the $750 offer. They attempted to stall so the redemption date passes. Contact them by email to return my item. Item not returned and in order not to take a total lost, redeemed on Apple Store.

Phobio finally returned the correct charger about two weeks later. Whether the charger they sent me is actually mine and not just one from their warehouse is hard to tell.

It is a bit dirty and I know mine was clean when I sent it to Phobio along with my laptop.

I can honestly say that I will never again deal with Phobio. It was a bad experience.

Original review Sep 30, 2020
I decided to trade in my 2015 15in MacBook Pro for a new 2019 16in MacBook Pro. The trade in seemed easy enough and I thought I was getting a fair price for my old 2015 MacBook. About 10 days after I sent my old MacBook in I received an email informing me that my trade in value had been reduced by $350 because a key was broken. I knew that one of the keyboard tiles was loose but it still worked and the tile was in place when I closed the lid of the laptop and inserted it into the very secure air cushioned sleeve that was then placed into the box for mailing to Phobio. I questioned why Phobio reduced the trade in value by over $300 and they said that the prices are set by Apple. I was surprised at that response; and decided to cancel the trade in and asked for the laptop to be returned to me. The laptop arrived in a filthy condition (I cleaned the laptop before I sent it off to Phobio) and the key that was loose was now completely missing. When I questioned Phobio about the missing key they said that it was not present when they received the laptop. I said that was not possible given how carefully I packed the laptop in the secure sleeve and box and the key was still attached. Then they blamed it on Fed Ex and said I should take it up with Fed Ex. I also mentioned that it was highly unlikely that Fed Ex were the cause of the missing key. Basically, they refused to do anything and just brushed me off. I also discovered that the charger they returned with my laptop was the wrong one; it was a 60W charger for use with 13" MacBook Pros. My 15" MacBook Pro charger is a 85W charger. On top of being the wrong charger, it was in a filthy condition and the sanitising wipes I used to clean it turned black with the filth removed from the charger. I asked Phobio to return my correct charger and I have still to receive it. It has been over a week now and I still do not have my charger with no indication that they have sent it. I decided to take my returned 15" MacBook Pro to the Apple store to inform them of my experience with Phobio and also see what they could do about the missing key. Apple were brilliant; they replaced the missing key free of charge and confirmed that the charger was the wrong one for the 15". They also mentioned to me that Phobio set the trade in values. Overall, I would have to say that Phobio are dishonest, non-trustworthy, arrogant and incompetent (especially considering the condition in which I received my laptop). I would think twice about trading in your technology with Phobio. Stay clear of them. I would actually rate them negative stars; but that isn't possible.
